Shoulder Ratios
We use shoulder ratios to work out your strength balance in your rotator cuff muscles. Many studies have looked into this and what we find in clinical practice, if you can keep your ratios within a certain range, then your shoulder is in generally good health. The ratio range we use does depend on your sport but here are some typical ranges listed in the table below. The testing results will be emailed to you so you can keep track of your scores over time.

1.1-1.6 |
Normal |
This is a typical range for most people with around 1.3-1.5 being ideal |
Greater than 1.6 |
External rotation weakness or overly developed internal rotation |
This is a typical imbalance in sports such as swimming with the external rotators getting little attention in training |
Less that 1.1 |
Internal rotation weakness and/ or overly developed external rotation |
Typically the external rotators are not overly developed but rather there is a problem with the internal rotators. In most athletes, this is a sign of overuse or injury |
