Running Analysis

At Chocolate Box Training

Can you Measure Running Performance?

Performance measures in running is often limited to pace and heart rate data (if you own a Garmin or Apple Watch etc). If you dig deeper you may see statistics such as cadence, contact times, vertical ossification or even power, but most athletes either do not know what to do with the data, or they do not know what it means. How do you improve without knowing what you need to improve? How do you know if your technique is correct? The answer is to use data to help provide objective measures, have someone explain to you exactly what they mean, and more important of all, know how to fix any problems.

We are really excited to launch a new service for the runners of Chocolate Box Training. Normally this technology is limited to the elite sports teams or professionals but we have streamlined a process to make it affordable and available to you. This initial running analysis will help find out how well you run and also provide you with some insight into how to improve it.

What is involved?
The running analysis is performed within a group of 5 people at Chocolate Box Training. The initial warm up will include some dynamic warm up drills and assessments of flexibility and strength before breaking out into a warm up jog. Individuals will then have sensors placed on their legs to record statistics such as force per stride, contact times, initial peak accelerations (IPA), ground reaction force symmetries and other measures at various running speeds. We then analyse the data to provide you with both some objective measures to help you improve and also some direction on how to improve them.

How do you know if you have improved?
The best way to know if you have improved is to get tested again. That is why we have designed the program to run over 4 weeks. Members have the option to either sign up for the initial group assessment and get all the data to help identify problems and have solutions at hand, but they can also sign up for the 1 month program which includes all the follow up. During this follow up period, will provide weekly re-testing sessions to ensure you are getting better and make adjustments to your programs if you are not.

How much does this cost?
This program is normally $350 for the 4 weeks (for non Chocolate Box Members) but we are pleased to offer this initial group assessment for $40 for each client. If after the first session, you are happy with the single assessment and program, then that is the total cost. The full 4 week program is $250 and includes the initial assessment and weekly follow up sessions to improve your running. In order to provide individual attention in the group environment, numbers are strictly limited to 5 runners per group.
